Best Drones For Sale and Why

What Kind Of Drone Are You Looking For? Don’t know where to start? If you’re looking for the best drones for sale, you’ve come to the right place.

If you want a drone, you probably don’t want just any drone. That’s why we’ve broken all of the drones up into three very distinct types. Click below on the type of drone that you’re interested in to learn more about them, and find the best drones in that category.

Each model in the three categories was picked based on features, quality, ease of use and value. Although these are numbered lists based on which models we personally like in a particular category, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider all of them when buying your first drone.

Everyone has different needs and reasons for wanting one over the other, so just keep that in mind when looking at drone reviews online.

This months newest addition is the new DJI Spark.

JULY 2017 top drones for sale list:

Before we get started, if you didn’t already know, all of these drones for sale are actually considered multirotors, but most people still call them drones because it’s easier to say. A quadcopter is another type of multirotor aircraft with four rotors.

If this is your first time looking at drones for sale, then you probably don’t understand all of these crazy drone terms. Check out “5 Things You Should Know Before You Buy “. After that, you can come back to this page with a lot more drone buying knowledge.

Drones With Cameras

These are the drones that most people are familiar with. Camera drones are usually ready-to-fly quadcopters that have stabilized cameras for shooting video and stills. Drones with cameras have a massive amount of uses in different industries, such as video production, search and rescue, agriculture and more. Most people don’t buy camera drones for a one specific reason. People tend to use their drone for many different reasons. Some of the more popular reasons include exploring the world from new perspectives, experiencing what it’s like to fly, and capturing memories in a completely new way is a perfectly good reason for wanting a camera drone.

List Of Camera Drones

Below you will find a list of the most popular camera drones for sale right now, with the best drones being at the top. Please note that pricing may change at any time, so click on the price to see current pricing and availability.

Top Camera Drones

If you thought about having a drone as a kid, you probably imagined something like the DJI Spark. It’s a micro-sized camera drone, loaded with features and specs that make flying a drone easy and approachable. The Spark is beyond small. It fits in the palm of your hand, and with the new palm-launch feature, you can go from powered-off to flying in less than 30 seconds.

When using the Optional controller, the Spark has a top speed of 31MPH, a range of over 1 mile, and enough flight time to get you there and back (12 to 16 minutes, tested by us). But what if you don’t care about any of that?

What if you just want it to fly a few feet from you and take a photo or two? This is where gesture control comes in. With Gesture control (only available on the DJI Spark), you can launch the drone, fly it around, and take pictures using only hand gestures.

It’s like using the force! The Spark can do all of this because it uses computer vision processors and machine learning algorithms to recognize your face and hands. In other words, it’s the smartest drone you can buy right now.

Pictures are great, but the Spark is more than just s selfie drone. It shoots 1080p video and stabilizes it using a mechanical gimbal. This makes the Spark much better at shooting video than drones that only rely on digital stabilization. You can get exactly the kind of shot you’re looking for by connecting the Spark to your phone via Wi-Fi and using the virtual joysticks, but there’s an easier way of shooting that can make even a beginner look like a pro.

Quick Shot, DJI’s newest set of smart shooting features are a great way of helping you get cinematic shots without needing hours and hours of practice and patience.

One of my favorite features of the Spark is the new ShallowFocus photo mode. This mode allows you to get those professional DSLR-like shots where the main subject is in focus, and everything else is blurred out. It’s like the portrait feature of the iPhone, but it works on almost every kind of shot (not just faces).

There’s so much stuff packed into this tiny little drone that you could write a book about it. There’s no way to go through all of the features here, but that’s why we’ve created a Spark section, where you can get a better idea of what the Spark is, how it works, and decide if the Spark is right for you.

We decided to put the DJI Spark at the top of our list for two reasons. The main reason is… it’s a great little camera drone with enough features and capabilities to keep you learning and growing as a new drone owner.

The other reason is… the price point. At $499, this is the best drone you can get, in a price range accessible to everyone!

The DJI Mavic Pro is like the Swiss Army Knife of drones. If you’re familiar with the Phantom 4, you can also think of the Mavic Pro as a Mini Phantom 4. The Mavic Pro is a drone made for adventurers and travelers, kids and adults, beginners and Pros, or anyone who wants a small yet extremely capable camera drone. That’s why the Mavic Pro made it to the number one spot on our list.

The big selling point of the Mavic Pro is its size . It’s already small, but with its foldable design, there’s no excuse not to have it around when you want to get that fantastic stabilized drone shot. Don’t believe me?

Check out this article where we show you all of the things we managed to fit the Mavic Pro inside. It’s practically the same size as a large camera lens. Even the controller folds up into a size that’s almost pocketable. You might think that its small size means it doesn’t have a lot of features, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The Mavic Pro shoots 4K video at 30FPS and 12-megapixel photos with DNG support. Now, I’m sure you know specs aren’t everything when it comes to cameras; that’s why we’ve tested the Mavic Pro and compared it to all of the other top camera drones out there.

DJI gave the Mavic Pro over 4 miles of range and over 21 minutes of flight time

The Mavic Pro’s camera beat out every other drone in its class except the Phantom 4 Pro, which starts at $1,499. With all of the same automated computer-vision shooting modes as the Phantom 4 like Active Track and Tap Fly, the Mavic Pro is perfect for getting the occasional tracking shot, where you become the talent and the camera man.

Forward-facing obstacle-avoidance is enabled in every mode except Sport Mode, so The Mavic Pro will try to keep you safe while you fly, and even while it flies itself.Endurance and performance are things that all drones should have, but most don’t.

This is why DJI gave the Mavic Pro over 4 miles of range and over 21 minutes of flight time (tested by the MyFirstDrone team), and a top speed of 40MPH.

These features are perfect for people who like to push their drones as far as they can. If you do lose signal while flying, don’t worry the Mavic will go into return-to-home mode and avoid obstacles while it comes back to you.

Right now, there are a ton of camera drones for sale, but the DJI Phantom 4 PRO is by far the most innovative. It can fly super fast. It’s very reliable. The HD live video streaming works better than any other drone out there. It’s super easy to set up and use. The list of things that you can do just goes on and on.

The main feature of the Phantom 4 is the added 3D cameras and new computer hardware for mapping out environments in three dimensional space. This is what allows it to avoid obstacles and maneuver around them. However, features like obstacle avoidance aren’t the only thing that puts the Phantom 4 above all the other drones out there.

From a design standpoint, the Phantom 4 is made extremely well. It’s not the kind of drone where it just looks cool. Every part has been designed to be functional, but still elegant.

Recently, DJI has expanded their customer support team and now they even have DJI Care, which is like a damage protection plan for drones. With DJI Care, you can send your Phantom 3, Phantom 4, or even Inspire 2 to DJI and they will fix it for free even if the crash was your fault. If you want to know more about DJI care, check out the DJI Care article.

Here are some of the features that make the Phantom 4 my favorite video drone.

  • 4K Video with 20 Megapixel Photos using a 1-inch sensor
  • HD Video Streaming to your Mobile Device (over 4 mile range in good conditions)
  • Powerful Mobile App (just like the DJI Inspire)
  • Longer Battery Life (over 22-30 minutes)
  • Advanced 3D Vision Positioning for More Stable Fligh t
  • Front, Side, and Rear Facing Obstacle Avoidance
  • Active Visual Subject Tracking Technology
  • Quick Release Propellers
  • Free In-app Flight Simulator for Learning to Fly

Right now, the DJI Phantom 4 PRO is priced at $1,499 which is pretty amazing considering that you’re getting the most technologically advanced drone on the market.

Let me just start off by saying, if you ever get a chance to see this drone in person, you’re going to want one for yourself. With a design that looks like it came from a sci-fi movie, the Inspire 2 is the smartest, fastest, highest quality, most professional ready-to-fly drone you can buy.

There isn’t much that the Inspire 2 CAN’T do. It comes standard with all of the features of the Phantom 4 Professional, but with a design optimized for performance and industry leading video features. It’s almost twice as big and twice as fast as the Phantom 4 (reaching speeds of almost 60MPH, and with it’s transforming design, the propellers will hardly ever appear in your videos. Additionally, the Inspire 2 comes with a 5.2k camera on a 360-degree panning gimbal and a dedicated FPV (first-person-view) camera. With all of these features, you no longer have to blindly fly backward or sideways to get the shots you want.

Having the FPV camera makes the Inspire 2 ideal for dual pilot operation. One person can fly using the FPV camera while the other person controls the video camera. Having two operators is great because it splits up the amount of work you have to do, but If you like to fly solo, you can now use the Spotlight Pro feature, which allows you to focus on flying while the Inspire 2 automatically points the camera at a specified.

Video quality on the Inspire 2 is second to none. With the production-ready X5S camera, you have the choice of shooting RAW 4K video at 60FPS, 12-bit RAW 5.2K video at 30FPS, and if you like Apple Prores, there’s even Prores 4444 XQ support.

I can’t cover everything about the Inspire 2 on this page, but one thing that I need to mention is that this is not something you should buy for your 12-year-old son as a gift. The Inspire 2 costs roughly $6,000 and is intended mainly for people who want the absolute best aerial photography/cinematography tool on the market; however, the Inspire 2 is still one of the easiest drones to fly, do don’t feel intimidated. Whether you have a real use for this drone, or you just want something that will impress all of your friends, the Inspire 2 is definitely a drone worth looking into.

If you like the design of the Inspire 2. but just can’t afford it, you might also consider buying the Inspire 1. It’s obviously nowhere near as good as the Inspire 2 if you compare the features, but the video quality you can get from the older X5 camera is still in a lot of cases better than the Phantom 4 Pro. DJI also makes hi-zoom and thermal imaging cameras that work with the Inspire 1, in case you need something for agriculture or search-and-rescue use.

If you’re looking for the easiest drone to fly with the most flight time, features and great video quality, the Phantom 3 is the only option that I would recommend to just about anyone. There are a few other drones that have similar functionality to the Phantom 3, but nothing else is going to give you a great all around experience with all of the most popular features for the same price.

Right now, the Phantom 4 is what I fly the most (when I’m not flying the inspire 1), but the Phantom 3 was my favorite camera drone before the Phantom 4 came out and it’s still better than any other option in it’s price range. I used to tell people to buy a smaller drone so that they could learn how to fly before investing in a Phantom, but now with better flight characteristics and the built-in flight simulator, there really isn’t a reason to do that anymore.

One thing that isn’t immediately apparent is how large the DJI user community really is. Compared to other drones, the amount of YouTube videos, websites and people in general talking about the Phantom 3 is huge. Any questions that you might have, there will always be someone out there who knows the answer. You can also find after-market accessories for sale like carrying cases, lens filters, GPS trackers and more.

When I flew the Phantom 3 for the first time, all I could think was “this thing flies like a mini Inspire 1!”. It’s much more stable than the Phantom 2 and the video quality is exactly the same as the inspire 1, however there are some big differences between them. If you aren’t sure which one to buy, read this article comparing the two.

Four Phantom 3 Models To Choose From

The Phantom 3 comes in four different models. At the top of the food chain, DJI’s Phantom 3 Professional comes standard with follow-me, GPS waypoints, point-of-interest, optical-flow and ultrasonic sensors (for hight and position hold when no GPS signal is available), 4K video recording, 20 minute flight times and more. The Phantom 3 Advanced will do everything that the Phantom 3 Professional can do, but at 2.7K instead of 4K. At $499, the Phantom 3 Standard is the cheapest Phantom 3 you can buy. It has a cheaper controller design (taken from the older Phantom 2), no optical-flow or ultrasonic sensors, but it still has follow-me, GPS waypoints and shoots 2.7k video. With the Phantom 3 Standard, you’re basically getting something comparable to a 3DR Solo with a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and gimbal for half the price. The last model which came out a few months ago is the Phantom 3 4K. It has the ability to shoot 4K. but at the same price as the Phantom 3 advanced.

For more detailed info about the model differences, head over to the comparison article where I talk about the strengths and drawbacks of all four Phantoms.

Yuneec Typhoon H

Compared to DJI, Yuneec is a relatively unknown company, however that hasn’t stopped them from competing. The Typhoon H is the biggest competitor to the Phantom 4 we’ve seen so far. It’s a 6 rotor retractable landing gear beast of a drone, with a 360 degree gimbal (similar to the Inspire 1). What makes it similar to the Phantom 4? Well both drones get over 20 minutes of flight time, have obstacle avoidance, decent video quality and are in the same price range. This is a drone that has a lot of interesting features and flies extremely well. We had the chance to use it for a few weeks and were genuinely impressed. By having 6 rotors, the Typhoon H flies very smooth, it should stay flying even if one motor fails, and it handles wind like a dream.

It comes with an all-in-one android controller, which means you don’t need a smartphone to use it, but the user interface is nowhere near as simple as the Phantom 4 or any DJI product for that matter. That’s one of the main reasons why we prefer DJI’s drones over what Yuneec offers. Also, you will need to upgrade to the Typhoon H Pro “with Realsense” to get full obstacle avoidance functionality. Unfortunately, this will bring the cost up by over $400, making it much more expensive than the Phantom 4.

Over all, I think this is a good drone to consider if you want a little bit of everything. It has some features from the Inspire 1, some features from the Phantom 4 and styling that makes it look a bit more professional than most drones out there “if that’s something you care about”.

For a more detailed explanation of the differences between the Phantom 4 and the Typhoon H, check out our full article comparing the two. On that page we cover things like control range, video features, flight features, general usability and more.

6. Yuneec Q500 4K

The q500 4K is an older model from Yuneec and as the name implies, it shoots 4K video just like the Phantom 4 and Typhoon H. Although the Yuneec looks like a pool vacuum cleaner (in my opinion), it has lots of great features for the price. For example, it comes with two batteries and a hand mount that allows you to take the camera (and gimbal) off the quadcopter to use it as a mini handheld stabilized camera system.

At around $800, it’s definitely a good price for what you’re getting, especially compared to the Solo, though it’s not as cheap as the Phantom 3 standard. Because the Q500 4K isn’t super popular compared to the other models, you won’t find a lot of information and videos about it yet, nor will there be any third-party accessories available, but that shouldn’t stop you from considering it as an option. The most interesting feature of the Q500 4K is that it has an Android device built into the controller, so there’s no need to use your tablet or smartphone, although the quality of the screen on the controller is definitely subpar compared to an iPad. If you do plan on buying the Q500, make sure that you get the new silver and black 4K version, because the original Q500 had a 1080p camera and it wasn’t all that great.

7. 3DR Solo

The 3D Robotics Solo is extremely functional, yet easy to use. It has many features similar to the Phantom 3 but instead of using a built-in camera, it uses the GoPro Hero 4. This means that you have the ability to take the camera off and use it for whatever you want. The biggest difference between the Solo and almost any other ready-to-fly camera drone is that it’s modular/upgradable but still easy to use. It has a gimbal bay and an accessory bay, meaning that third-party companies can easily make new gimbals along with other accessories (No accessories or gimbals are currently available though).

You can get the Solo for only $999, however this price does not include the GoPro or 3 axis gimbal. If you want to get the Solo with the 3DR gimbal and a GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition, The total cost will be around $1900. Basically, there are other cheaper options out there like the Phantom 3 and the Yuneec q500 4K that can produce videos with the same great quality, but if you can afford it and you like the options that the Solo has to offer, it’s not a bad choice.

8. Parrot Bebop

The Parrot Bebop is one of the more technologically advanced drones for sale right now. It’s the AR Drone’s smaller, smarter, faster and more expensive little brother.

Just like the AR Drone, you can control the Bebop with your iPhone or Android device. But with the Bebop, there’s an optional SkyController which will allow you to have real joystick controls, extended range, HDMI output and a few other cool things.

The Bebop has a lot of improvements over the AR Drone 2.0, but the most interesting feature is the video system. It has a 14 megapixel camera with a 180 degree field-of-view fisheye lens. Since the camera lens has such a wide field-of-view and a really fast processor, the Bebop is able to take the full 14 megapixel image, fix the image distortion (eliminating the fisheye effect), stabilize the image, then send the live video back to your phone. What all that means is that you’ll be getting a digitally stabilized standard definition video feed straight to your phone. At the same time, It also records digitally stabilized 1080p video to the 8GB of onboard memory.

The Parrot Bebop is a really cool drone, but there’s a few issues that I have with it. The first is that the video stream seems to have a lot of lag, making it unusable for really fast and precise FPV (first-person-view) flying.

The second problem is the price. The price for the Bebop is $499 USD. It’s not a bad price, but you have to use your smartphone to fly it, which means that you won’t have precise controls unless you buy the optional $400 SkyController (making it $899 USD total). A lot of people are also having reliability problems with the Bebop. Take this review from The Verge for example.

Overall, I think that the Bebop will be very popular “as a cool tech gadget” for the Christmas season, but I can’t see it being used for professional video in the same way that people use the Phantom 2 and Phantom 3. On the other hand, it’s a pretty good price (not including the SkyController), so I guess it wouldn’t be a bad gift idea.

#1 TBS Vendetta

The TBS Vendetta is a tiny little quadcopter designed specifically for FPV (first person view) racing and freestyle flying. Today, you can find quite a few mini FPV racing drones that come ready to fly, but the Vendetta is the best option out there. It comes with almost everything you need to start learning to race. The only things that it won’t come with is a controller, battery, charger and FPV video goggles, but in the world of drone racing you’ll usually want to choose that stuff to fit your needs anyway.

Racing drones like the Vendetta are usually much smaller than camera drones like the Phantom 4, but don’t let the small size fool you. The TBS Vendetta will easily reach speeds of 70mph and above when racing on a track, or over 100mph when doing nose dives down the sides of cliff faces.

There are a few reasons why we think the Vendetta is the best ready-to-fly racing drone, but the main reason is because it’s designed well and all of the parts have great performance and quality. The Vendetta is a drone that’s going to be hard to break, but if it does, no problem! It’s one of the only drones that doesn’t require a soldering iron when you need to replace components after crashing. This is a big deal for racing drones, because you’re always crashing and repairing it at racing events, or even just at the park. Because of its modular design, you can also upgrade to bigger motors, add a high-voltage battery and instantly have a faster machine.

As far as price goes, it’s about $500 (which is pretty normal for a drone this size with all of the features that it has). Availability for the Vendetta is not the best right now because it’s new and high in demand, but if you ordered one today you could expect to have it in your hands within a month.

#1 Syma X5C

The X5C is nothing special. It’s a simple quadcopter that almost looks like a DJI Phantom at first glance, but you won’t be taking amazing aerial videos with it, or racing through the forest. It has gyros and accelerometers to keep it stable and an auto flip feature like most drones out there. It also comes with a small camera for recording video with quality similar to a an old webcam.

So why is the X5C on the top of the list of toy drones for sale? There’s nothing particularly special about the Syma X5C, but it works and it’s really cheap. It’s a blast to fly if you’ve never flown anything before and it’s cheap enough where you don’t have to feel bad if you lose it on the roof top of your house. That’s probably why it has over 4,200 reviews on Amazon, which is a number that no other drone has come close to.

#2 Hubsan X4

The Hubsan X4 is personally my favorite (small) beginner drone. It’s about the same size as the Nano QX, but roughly half of the price. There’s 4 different versions of the Hubsan X4.

The cheapest version is about $45 USD (including the controller). It doesn’t have an agility mode like the Nano QX so you can’t fly with complete manual control, but it’s pretty fast and maneuverable (even with auto leveling). It also has 6 LED lights which can be turned on and off from the controller. Speaking of controllers, the controller that comes with the 3 cheaper Hubsan models is actually pretty nice. I like it better than what comes with the Nano QX and the Proto x).

The next 2 versions of the Hubsan X4 have cameras. They’re slightly bigger and heavier than the cheaper version of the X4, but the flight time is about the same. The H107C is the version with a standard definition camera and the 61170-02 is the one with a 720p camera. The Hubsan X4 with the standard camera is ok, but the 720p camera takes much better video. The only problem with the HD version is that it’s more expensive and the flight time is slightly less.

The most expensive version of the Hubsan X4 is the H107D. It’s mainly for FPV, which allows you to see everything that the drone can see in real time. The design is slightly different from any of the other models and it has a black antenna on the bottom. Although FPV is really cool, this is probably my least favorite version of the Hubsan X4, mainly because the flight time isn’t as good as the other models and the FPV range is only a couple hundred feet. It’s also about 2 times more expensive than the Hubsan with the HD camera.

Check Out The Mini Drones

I have to question this list since it still mentions the AR Drone 2.0. Is parrot even still relevant in the face of the Phantom quadcopters? Also, why is the TBS Discovery or the PRO not listed?

1. Parrot has a new quadcopter coming out called the bebop, so they’re not entirely irrelevant, but the Bebop isn’t out yet so I didn’t include it in the list.

2. I already had the QAV400 in there, so I didn’t want to include another quadcopter of the same style.

The first three quadcopters I listed are not drones that I would recommend to the average person, but each of them have unique qualities compared to the others on the list that some people might be looking for.

Hopefully that answers your question 🙂

The problem is that the Bebop isn’t really a contender with the likes of the Phantom. The entire QAV platform doesn’t have a ‘plug and play’ long range option for 45 minute flights like Team BlackSheep’s Discovery platform.

We won’t know how good the Bebop is until it’s out. The video it will produce probably won’t be as good as the GoPro, but it might be a cheaper option to shooting usable video for consumers then the phantom.

Who told you that the TBS Discovery get’s 45 minute flight times? The flight time it get’s is the same as any other quadcopter in that size range. The only people achieving flight times like that are people that do massive modifications, such as getting massive 15 inch props, bigger motors, bigger batteries and so on.

Thanks, very useful. What is your opinion of the Blade 350QX and the Turnigy SK450?

The Blade 350QX is ok, but it’s not as good as the phantom in a few way. The quality is lower, the battery life is much lower, it’s not tunable and it has more vibration then the phantom. It’s a good sport flyer though.

The SK450 is also not bad, but the part’s aren’t as high quality as what I have listed in the “how to build a quadcopter” tutorial.

i want to buy 1 drone is it avaliable in pakistan??/

do not buy a 350 qx or anything from Walkera no service after the purchase even under warranty on a brand new drone

yeah I know they got the worst drone ever you are 100 percent right I got one and boy do I hate it so I bought a real drone this time AEE toruk AP10 personallyI think it’s better than the DJI phantom no joke not kidding it flies 25 minutes tops a friend of mine own Dji phantom vision 2 The AEE toruk comes with a camera to as well 1080p HD video recording it’s the best I will never give this one up I might just buy another one for my cousin try it out not bad for the price $600 it’s worth the money just buy extra battery for the fun time you going to have

Ever heard of a period?

Mr. Scott. Give. Him. A. Break. Already. How’s that? YFA

i dont think so

one of my workmates send the SYMA to pakistan, but your country customs kept them. really sorry to tell you that it is not allowed to imported drone in your country.

Can you tell me, What is better, seeker V303 or CX-20 ?

Forgive the quibble, but it’s “aerial”, not “arial.”

Rodney Huffman Sr

Look at almost 70 years old I was thinking of getting the Parrot with gps, I been flying the little x5c explorer, I don’t know if this is wise or not? Any feed back would be a big help now remmber it gets real hot here but try flying in the early morning. Thxs for any input

I would wait and see what the Parrot Bebop has to offer when it comes out later this year. I know it’s going to be way better then the AR Drone, but I’m not sure about the price.

Rodney Huffman Sr

Thank you that was my first was number 3 don’t know about the service, maybe you could share or intake on number 3 for support?

How does the udir/c u817a match up to all of these? My roommate just got one for $60 and it came with a camera, charger and controller. It seems to be great but with a flight time of maybe 10-15 min.

That one doesn’t look bad. It’s a lot like the LaTrax Alias, but I’m not sure if it can be flown manually without any auto leveling. Also I don’t think there are any replacement parts for it other then props. Good price though.

Are there any models with extended flight time? If not, do the Phantom models have a quick battery change?

Great list produced. alternate batteries can be used but it is hard to get 40 min air time. I found some great reviews on BESTREVIEWZ DRONES.

Great info Korey. Thanks. Philip Bloom did make a grate video. I thought the Phantom could not operate with a Go Pro using FPV. It seems he had to use it to fly through the trees and docks. That’s what I want to use a drone for. Video. Will FPV work on a Phantom with a Go Pro. Also I hear a lot of stories about the Phantom users loosing control. Did they fix that yet? Thanks. Bob Jax. Fl.

You can do FPV with the phantom. You just can’t use the GoPro wifi, or else it might interfere with the receiver and GPS. The reason for this is because the wifi on the GoPro is 2.4Ghz which is exactly the same frequency as the electronics in the phantom. This is actually one of the main reasons for “fly aways” to happen. To do FPV, you need a video system like this one that operates at 5.8Ghz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OZFR73U7AM

Wow Korey. Thanks for the response. Now I understand what I’m up against. You do make great videos. Audio was perfect and you were shooting on sticks. Hand held is easy but very hard to watch. I’m impressed. Thanks again. Bob Jax. Fl.

Francis Chuks N

Dear Korey
Your posts are very useful indeed. I own and fly the Quanum Nova and think it is good, but it soes not go out too far because of its flight time limit.
Can you recommend any quadcopter that can fly out as much as 2 to 3 miles with a return to base function.
I like the Phantom series too but dont know if they have this capacity with their 20 Minutes flight time limit. Kindly advise.

Really helpful info, thanks!
What do you think about the new Iris+ that just came out? The follow me mode seems highly helpful, but I’m clueless about the pricing vs. functionality compared to the ones you listed.

Hi. I want to buy one for my 12 year old son. and was thinking of getting the patriot dr. what is your recommendation for the best one on the market. Many thanks

get a
Syma – X5C. its totally awesome. or get a

UDI U818A there both the same with a camera and gyros and stuff. there also under 60 dollars witch is a pretty good deal

Can you give me a few links to where to buy it at. I was reading Amazon feedback a and they are delivering knockoff ones. I want to make sure I get the correct product. Thank you.

I would personally order from Amazon Prime that is “sold and shipped from Amazon.” I would be amazed if you got a knockoff from them directly.

For a 12 year old i recommend a hubsan X4 107c or blade nano QX. Id stay away from the bigger drones because of his age. I personally like the x4 but both are good starter drones to learn on. He will also like them because they are really fast.

syma x5sw, it is cheap, easy, fun, and durable! if he is a first timer, i would give him a syma x12s. a parrot dr wouldn’t be the first as recommended, but a Ltoys V666 is very friendly! dont get anything below $20, because there is no quality drone that wont make a kid sad after breaking in the first day. (experience) What would fit his hobby? Movie production: camera drone… Racing: speedy drone (nothing big in that case)… And all kids are impatient, so find one with a quick charging battery, or get a spare or two. I hope this is helpful, and i hope your son becomes a drone pilot. WARNING. Drones are VERY addicting, so getting a drone will eventually turn into an expensive, and loud hobby. (again… experience)

Syma X5C. I’ve probably had as much fun goofing around with it as I have flying my DJI Phantom. I got it to learn the basic controls and it was excellent for that. Crashed the X5C a few times while learning, but because of the skills I learned I’ve never crashed my Phantom.

Korey! Thanks a lot for this blog. good job! I’m wanting to buy one as a gift for someone, and you’ve definitely helped me a lot! Thanks again!

Hi, I want to buy my husband his first drone as a gift and I think he would use it for photos and video mostly. He does not own a drone so this will be his first, I don’t want to spend too much money but that said, which ones would you recommend? He works for Apple so I thought the Parrot but I am not sure how easy that would be to fly using his Iphone/Ipad, etc. Thanks in advance

I just got a ar drone 2.0 and found it quite easy to fly with my ipad.

get a
Syma – X5C. its totally awesome. or get a

UDI U818A there both the same with a camera and gyros and stuff. there also under 60 dollars witch is a pretty good deal!
try getting theem for your husban

I have a phantom 3 and love it. My wife just bought me a hubsan H501S and i fly ot a little more. The phantom take 10xs better photos and videos but the H501S is so much more aggressive and cheaper to fly (referring to batteries and damaged parts). Phantom batteries are around $140 my H501S batteries are $29. Parts are also cheaper.

I would add Hubsan’s H107L to Korey’s list. It’s currently available on Amazon for $43.55. (Flying time – about 5 minutes.) Hubsan has other versions (more expensive) that have a camera and/or FPV, but you probably won’t ever use these features on the low end Hubsans.

If you are just learning, tie a long string on the Hubsan along with something that weighs a pound or more on the other end. You can then fly it indoors without it bumping into everything. (It takes a bit of skill before you can keep it from bumping into things.)

Outdoors works the same way. (Use a longer piece of string.) The string saves a lot of effort in chasing after it. (Pick a large grassy area to fly it so it will bounce gently when it lands – not always gracefully if you are just learning.)

The controls to fly forward/backward, fly left/right, fly up/down, and to turn work the same way that they do on larger multicopters. After you have learned how to make it (approximately) hover in one place, fly figure eights, and land it approximately where you want to; you can move onto to bigger toys.

The only word of caution I have is that there is an addiction to flying RC planes of any type. This can turn into an expensive hobby as you will continually want something that can do more of everything.

Well said! I was thinking of adding the Hubsan X4. I will when I have time. Thanks.

I have an AR Drone and for the most part I love it. There are 3rd party flying apps that have gamepad support that make it much more like flying a radio controlled one. All the features that go to making it stable and easy to fly do work against learning to fly. The downside is the video is not really good enough for aerial photography. Decent enough for FPV. The biggest downside IMO is the range. You are lucky to get 50 meters from the device. There are ways to extend that but how much do you want to spend most get the AR because of the cost being much more affordable then other similiar size HD FPV units. The Bebop will still have range issues but early video seems to indicate that it is much improved for aerial photography. If there ends up being a way to support gamepads then it moves to being more of player. The 400 dollars for the controller is crazy Parrot.

Is there a reason the RC EYE One Xtreme (Mode 2) isn’t on your list? It will be my first quadcopter, but I have used my MTX T-Series T-04 helicopter for some time.
From what I’ve read, this little guy has everything from 6 axis to brushless motors.

Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks in advance.

There isn’t a lot of information about it on the internet (meaning less support), I’ve owned other Walkera products in the past and it left a bad taste in my mouth and the price doesn’t seem much better than the Phantom 2. But I don’t know, maybe you could do a review on it and see if it works good.

What are your toughts on the Phantom 2 Vision plus V3? Would you reccommend one that you can attach a go pro to or will the camera on the vision plus do just fine?

The pro for vision plus, you can toggle video shooting resolution mode and other camera parameter on the fly, while the craft in the air.

they left one drone out and it’s just the best Drone I’ve ever flown it’s called the AEE toruk AP10 the best Drone I’ve ever flown I think it’s better than the Dji phantom I like to technology better you have to do a lot with the DJI to get it started the Aee toruk is quick simple and easy and the same technology as the DJIand it flies for 25 minutes to be exact no joke the best

i want to use this opportunity to thank My great Dr.atitiokotemple There are some good luck charms and amulets which people from different parts of the world have found to be effective sources of positive spiritual energy. You must have faith and believe in positive spiritual energy. The simple act of three keys worn together symbolize the unlocking of the doors to health, wealth and love. Also, lucky charm bracelets are very much in vogue nowadays. They are fashion accessories that do serve a useful purpose. Lucky charm lockets may take the form of almost any luck symbol. They attract good luck and remain in close physical contact to the wearer. Charms are symbolical in nature and rely more on the power of suggestion. A study conducted by a British University showed that more than 30% of those who carried good luck charms felt their luck had genuinely improved. Although there is no definitive explanation. This perhaps best explains the manner in which good luck charms work, the faith placed in them by their users. Once a user recognizes the positive spiritual energy of a lucky object they allow that object to realist it’s potential to do good by diminishing the negative effects of bad periods and exploiting the full benefit of benefit of good times. Of course, in order to take full advantage of a good period a proactive approach is required, as even in the ancient Hindu scriptures it is said that it is ONE’S actions that are above all. If you believe! you can find all this on Dr.atitioko if u need a change in ur life business and other stuff u can email him on his personal email address [email protected] i promise u going to have some change in all

thank you Korey for the information but i’m still hesitant to make decision on what to take. i’m a beginner and I do some film making but I like to take it to the next step … my question is why Ghost Aerial Plus is not in the list?.

Thank you Korey, I’m thinking seriously to own my first Drone that can improve my video making with my GO Pro. I’m in between Ghost Drone and Walkera QR X350 Pro. but I didn’t see Ghost on your list ?

Another person looking for thoughts on the Ghost.

I know it’s pretty new, but it looks go as an entry level drone.

Anyone got any feedback on it?

well, one thing is enough to tell it’s not good enough: it doesn’t have the function of real time video transmission. Really bad feeling that you can’t see what your drone is shooting…

Speedwolf Vajra80 $350 flight time 25-30min

Hi Korey. I posted something earlier, but it disappeared almost immediately. Hopefully I’m properly registered now. I am in the market for a DJI Phantom 2 Vision +, v3. Now comes the 2 versions of the Phantom 3. My question is do you think the Phantom 2 prices will drop with the Phantom 3 now released. I think I would rather by one of the P 3s than pay $1,100 for a Phantom 2. Also, have you seen a side-by-side comparison between the P3s and the P2s? I love your website. I have learned more in the past 4 days than in months of scattered research.

Will my iPhone 6 Plus fit in the smartphone holder on the DJI Phantom 2 Vision +?

I’m thinking of buying a drone for the first time. Never flown anything like it before and after seeing a presentation on them, I’m itching to learn. I feel like the FPV would be extremely beneficial to have when learning to fly one… is this true? I’m trying to find one under $200 with a reasonable quality camera that’s easy to learn to control and has a flight time of 10-20 mins. I imagine durable would be essential, as well, as it’ll prob take a bit of a beating at first. Maybe something 8-15 inches or so. Any suggestions?

Has anyone ever ordered a Phantom product from Wilz Superstore?

Greetings, new to this forum. I am looking for a reasonably priced quad/drone, sorry don’t know all the terminology that will allow me who has never flown a drone before to take pictures/videos of my property and vineyard. Looking for something really easy to learn and fly. I am sure that there are more questions I should be asking, just looking for advice from those who know the ropes.

I guess I am really shocked over the reviews I see for the Solo. I have a Solo and I have been quite disappointed. Out of about a dozen flights, I have had issues with 6 or 7. So about half the flights ended prematurely or in crashes. I have sent the logs to 3DR and they have been fairly easy to work with but my biggest concern was the last couple of flights I had at the beach. I lost communications with the controller on both flights and the Solo returned home, landed once and I was able to reconnect the other time. After the logs were evaluated, 3DR said that the hotel wifi interfered with the controller. So, where can you fly one of these in today’s world? Anyone can simply turn on their hot spot on their phone and then my Solo can’t fly. So I am not looking to replace my Solo because it is not practical (issues with interference) and because now I do not have the confidence to really capture those pictures that I purchased it for. If you can’t depend on the drone, then you really can’t fly it around. So not I’m looking into the Phantom. I am just very surprised that there are so many good reviews for such a subpar product.

can I fly the phantom 3 Advanced from my old ipad, it has 8.4 os.

Hi! Would anyone know which of the drones above is best for hiking?
I for example go on Kilimanjaro in 5 weeks and would really love to take a drone but it would need to be the typical impossible: foldable, light, strong for high altitude and wind, to be charged by solar power…
I thought parrot can get small but the controler is huge and heavy.
How small can the inspire 1 get? can you take off arms/rotors?
Thanks

Hi
Which Drone has the lowest Db level

I’m a beginner and am looking for advice for a done video system that is able to follow me hands-free and give production-level video. It also needs to function in temperatures ranging from -10C to +40C, in rain, as well as gusts of high winds (50KmPH). Any suggestions most gratefully received.

I am clueless on this subject and I am wanting to buy a gift for my grandson. This has been helpful. I want to get a cheaper one like the Hubsan H07C type model. I see the video card isn’t included. Can I buy the Micro SDHC card separately and how do I know it will fit. I hear there are some which don’t work with certain models? I live on one continent and my grandson on another so it complicates things a little. Thank you for any advice asap.

My son and I just lost a cheap drone in long grass after it got away from us(a mixture of too far away and a bit of wind). Are there any drones with a built in find me feature, like if you lose a cordless phone handset?

Thank you very much, Korey, for doing all this!
To the group – which one is better: Flying 3D X8 or Cheerson CX20? Or maybe suggest something better below $300. Thanks!

Hi I want to buy dron havy lifting howmuny kg best dron can lift and cheep dron?

I live in village and there very bad place all time I neat time to delivery food to old people like 15-20-25 kg
It can be best for me to buy dron and
Delivering buy it

@koreysmith123:disqus: I have a Proto X (it’s actually Hubsan Q4, same?). I really enjoy buzzing it around from shelf to shelf. And I enjoy pretending I’m piloting in strong winds and adverse conditions. I’m in love with this little mosquito!

It’s my first quadcopter. Hmm. Yes, I have real flight experience, so… maybe that’s why I can fly this thing decently. (So lucky it came in Mode 2; I didn’t know what Modes were then.)

I’ve ordered enough motors for about 20 flights (assuming each set of motors lasts only 2 hours).

Are there similarly small and cute options that come with brushless motors, assuming I never have to replace those motors?

I just… like it small. I can hardly believe this isn’t a dud of a toy.

I’ve ordered a few Hubsan X4’s too, by the way. Yes, the Q4’s controller is too small, but fun nonetheless.

Do you have a review for the storm drone

I’m interested LaTrax alias but heard the motors burn out really fast. Do you no if this problem was fixed or not?
Thanks

Is there a function where you can take your hands off the handset and it just sits in the air like a cruise control type function. Always wondered this just that i remember fighting to keep one up years ago on a mini copter.

Hi Korey, would you consider the Blade Chroma multirotor to make your list? It is quite a new drone but has all the features of Phantom 3 Advanced/Professional and the great great great benefit of 30 mins flight time on a single battery.

How’s about the ghost drone review

I have read many comments below but still am a bit confused. Want to buy my first drone. Mostly for pictures and not so much video. Budget can be up to $500. Not computer savvy at all. If you were buying a drone for you 50 year old mother so she could take pictures, what would you suggest. Where would you buy this drone? Online or in a store?

Any thoughts on the New 4k Chroma from Horizon?

If I buy the standard Phantom 3 (about $700), do I need to get a better charger and/or controller, or are the included ones sufficient? Thanks.

I am looking at the Striker RC Spy drone with live-view for a beginner pilot. Do you like this model?

My mother is planning on buying my father a drone for christmas. she doesn’t really think of them as anything other than a fancy toy. I have been planning on buying him a goPro as well (more for being on his motorcycle etc) and the more I read about drones to help her make her purchase, I am thinking that for someone who doesn’t use his cell phone for more than placing a call and he occasional text message, that her best purchase would likely be a phantom (probably the phantom 2, price wise) with the gimbal accessories so that the goPro I purchase could be used with it? Any feedback or opinions in regards to this would be greatly appreciated because really I have no clue either. TIA

I’m looking for one that’s water proof with camera. It will be for daughters boyfriend who lives in Florida, so it will be flying over salt water. Something under 200.00 he’s a engineer so he can work thing well

I want to buy one for my husband as a gift and it would be the first one, the X5SW is a good option or is better to buy the X5C? Thanks

Any suggestion for the drone quadcar that are out now would Iike to shoot high quilty ariel views as well as low floor level views.

Immersion Vortex +1

About to buy my first drone in weeks, looking on ebay and putting in work searching and re-searching. I am thinking Phantom 3 pro or advanced. I am Pur3G33k and going to be flying it in Milwaukees ghetto… any advice on model or mods or anything that can save me money. Dont really need a 4k camera… Will wait/watch for reply. Oh also. Used pricing. I can maybe do $1000 would like bang for buck tho and want to spend a couple hundred less. thank you.

Lisa Schaefer Gonzalez

I really want to buy my son a drone. He is a senior in high school and going to college for Film/Digital media production. I can afford around 300.00 He would be a beginner but is very smart with these things. PLease tell me what to buy. I see the Aries Blackbird X10 was 800.00 and is on sale for 299.00 but the reviews are not great. I am also looking at the Parrot ARDRONE 2.0. PLEASE HELP! I want to order one today.

I want to buy my adult son a drone kit. He has a degree in electronics so it should be fun for him to build his own quad opted. Are there any kits you’d recommend that have all the necessary components including controller and battery’s with charger? Thanks.

The DJI phantom 3 pro,if you want a case, extra battery, extra set of props ect, it’ll set you back right at $2000. The Yuneec Q500 4k comes with all that for $1299. But remember this, the q500 is not a racing quadcopter. It’s for aerial photography, not racing and since it slower, it’s a great 1st quadcopter. You pretty much have to go out of your way to crash it. Also from my research,Yuneec has a great customer servive where DJI does not.

One thing missing here is the limitations on types of devices compatible with each. For example, I have Samsung products, specifically a Tab S series tablet and it is not compatible with the Phantom 3. Had I not researched this, based on your review, this would have been my first choice and I would have potentially had issues and damage to the device.

Hello. Great site with valuable info. What I didn’t find was distance from controller and noise level of any models.

Ah, but you can easily add a receiver to the Parrot AR-Drone 2.0 and fly it with a radio transmitter! Flying with an iPhone is nice, but having full range and controlling the copter with proper transmitter makes all the difference. Highly recommend the Mirumod to anyone wanting to fly an AR like other quads.

HI Korey
on the amazon web site. as i look to buy the phantom 3. i see the comments from people who have purchased the item from DJI. i have to say they are not very good. stating alot of customer service issues, firmware. and turn around times for repairs, are you a puppet for DJI, i see they are a sponsored advertiser. and is there a better quad i could expect to buy and have no issues as i explained

Hi Daniel,
I wouldn’t say DJI is perfect (no company is), but based on what people I personally know say and what my own experience with their products has been like, I couldn’t really recommend anything else.

I can’t speak for every single person who owns a Phantom, but I can say that If you have a problem with the drone (that wasn’t you’re fault), they will repair it and get it back to you. Obviously, how long it takes depends on how many repairs they have, where you live, what kind of repair they need to do, if they have the parts in stock for repair etc. Honestly, If something breaks on my Phantom 3, I will just order the part I need from the DJI store and fix it myself which is what most people do.

As far as quality control goes, I can’t prove this, but I would say only 1 out of every 300 phantoms sold will likely have a problem, but for the people that do, their problem is usually resolved.

To answer your other question, Yes we have a relationship with DJI, but we are a completely independent website that is not owned by DJI and they don’t tell us what we can and can’t say. If we felt that there was a better drone than the Phantom 3, we would just start a partnership with whatever company that makes it.

Thank you Korey. You cleared up a lot

Your texts are always very informative, interesting and easy to read.
With a few exceptions:
With ‘syfy film’ you apparently mean ‘sci fi film’ (science fiction)?

this is a crock. dont get me wrong, i love my phantom and ive loved learning to really fly it. its a fantastic quadrotor for the price and features. but you didnt mention any of the performance features that the 3dr solo has. the orbit and cable cam ability alone on the solo smokes a phantom all day. im not saying its difficult to learn to fly something like a phantom and film with it, because it has a flight training sim built into the app. but you can take a solo out of the box and pull off great aerial shots as a complete amateur. this is something you cannot do with a phantom, period. granted, you are limited to gopros (for now) with the solo, but who cares? “the only difference between a solo and the others is modularity”. laughable, but this is a HUGE difference. this article is biased crap. get off the dji bandwagon.

hello obviously new here.
Are therevany that can be preprogramed flight with GPS quarternance.

The claimed phantom 4 flight time for 28 minutes is not true. From most of the flight test is 22 minutes at most. It is even lower, down to 15-16 minutes in sport mode. DJi has to be more fair on what they claim. My XK Detect X380-c and Yuneec Typhoon 500Q, both have a proven flight time of 25-32 minutes. And it is not just hovering, it is really flying around 400 x 400 meters at around 500 ft altitudes.

Nice article but I think list is not updated in 2016. I found latest list of Drones on http://bestreviewz.org/best-drones/ . List has some great quality Drones.

i think that the x star permium is a good or even better competitor for the camera drones

Mechanical Parts Specifications and Details?

Hi Korey,
I think you’ve done a great job here, describing the pro’s and con’s of individual flying platforms – as well as informing people what other things they should think about when deciding to give a drone as a gift, or before flying one themselves. My issues are a little different – I have a 5 year old grand son who fell in love with his cousins drone and wants one for his birthday! The drone his cousin had was purchased at Target and it was one of those with the foam body around the props. I think it cost around $70.
I want to introduce him to drones but I want it to be sturdy enough not to break in 5 minutes! Also they live in a small house in a crowded neighborhood, so he’ll be better suited to playing with this while over here where we have lots of room outside and few trees. And I don’t want to give him a mini drone. Something rugged, easy to fly for a beginner (with newby grandpa’s assistance)!
What do you suggest? And could it be an easier learning curve learning flight controls on a coaxial copter!
Thanks so much and again great job!

I’m looking to rent a drone off Fat Lama, people are renting out a variety of drones. Theres the Mavric Pro, the phantom 4, the inspire 1 v2 and a few of the parrot drones. I’ve used the phantom 4 before, its epic. But i’ve never used it skiing. Are any of these drones able to follow you, so when I’m skiing down the slopes I want to able to ski down and have the drone film me from behind as its chasing me down the mountain. Can any of them do this? Any thoughts would be awesome. Only using it for a week in Feb hence i’m not buying. Any recommendations would be awesome.

Aslo, what are the regulations when skiing. I was told that some ski resorts don’t let you take drones up the mountain. What about if its quite remote? Off-piste?

Hello Every One
My experience with Dr. Ogbefi has changed me forever.
I’m from Los Angeles USA. I had come to a point in my life where I had to make a decision. I was unhappy with the way I looked and it reflected on my relationships with wife. I had done lots of research to get my wife back. I spent a good 8 months thinking about it. Then i went online seeing good and positive testimonies about Dr. Ogbefi and i decided to contact him though i was about given up. I had my consultation with Dr. Ogbefi and that is when I knew he was the right doctor. He was kind, truthful and spent a lot of time with me. Dr. Ogbefi walked me through the whole process to make sure that things went smoothly for me. I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience. Are there some pocket drone recommend like Wingsland S6? I have known Wingsland S6, and I want to complete more pocket drones, I want to get a cheap and high quality drone.

I am considering the DB Power UDI 842 Predator camera drone WI FI FPV drone with HD camera. 2.4G 4 ch 6 zxis gyro rtf for $139. Is that a good price and is it a good drone in that price range. My husband a former pilot and this is just for fun. What do you think. Better options in that price range?

are there similar drones to the Mavic pro. I like it, but the unfolding and twisting intrigues me.

Hello, I can see the comments exceed three years ago, so I believe the post is being updated since it dates june 2017. Having this in mind, my question is why the XIAOMI Mi Drone 1080p and 4K are not in the list of the camera drones and the spark launched after the Mi Drone is? The other question is why Genius idea drone is not there either.
